Search for the Present

I do not have much time to post a lot because I have final exams in a couple of days. But I found this quote that I liked very much.

"Look not back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around you in awareness." -Ron Hersey"

It is so easy to look at the past with regret or resentment or look to the future with fear; however, I like this quote because it asks us to remember the present: to savor and be aware of everything that is in our lives right now.

Search for Motivation

In life, we all need motivation. Stress and difficulties that are a fact of life can often drag us down and set us on a path of anxiety. How do you relieve stress? What motivates you to keep going when the challenges present in our daily lives seem to set us back?

Academic hurdles often set me back. I usually begin with a bright spirit, ready to take on the world. But as the hours grow longer, my energy and strength wanes. Even worse, my motivation can falter, replaced by apathy and disillusionment. I would like to change that. As I begin my studying for today, I want to embrace the quotes, ideas, and messages that provide me a surge of inspiration and hope so that I may trudge forward when I feel least inclined to do so.

1. Studying as a form of Worship of God and Nature

Sometimes I have trouble bringing myself to study scientific concepts that do not come as easily to me. However, this phrase always invigorates me. In Francis Collin's book The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence For Belief, he writes, "The experience of sequencing the human genome, and uncovering this most remarkable of all texts, was both a stunning scientific achievement and an occasion of worship." What an incredible way to view the study of science, and really of studying in general. I find this idea of viewing studying as "an occasion of worship" inspirational. It means learning and studying is a way to pay homage to the beautiful harmony that is embedded in life, nature, language, knowledge, and wisdom.

2. Do Everything Wholeheartedly

In life, it can be easier to do things using fractions of ourselves. It may be easier to just say, "God will take care of it," or someone else will take care of it: whether it is our parents, our government, our teachers, our friends, etc. In the words of Veronica from the movie Billy Madison: "You know some people have no will power, no ambition. They just drift through life like lumps of crap." I do not want to become that person. Life is a gift. And to live life without using all of our hearts is (to me) not appreciating the beautiful gift of life. So to follow Ephesians 6:7 "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men."

Sisterly Inspiration

An inspiration to me in many ways, my little sister is the one who inspired me to even think about starting a blog. After some consideration, I decided I would give it a try. Welcome! Many ideas popped into my mind about what I should blog about. What I decided to title this blog is the "Search for Hope."

I believe we all have an insatiable thirst and hunger for Hope. We may hope for different things but these varying hopes are what I believe gives our life meaning. What do you Hope for? What gives your life meaning and purpose?

During the past few years I feel that I would lose Hope when propelled onto different routes. Sometimes I feel that I am teetering on the line of forgetting who I am, what I stand for, what I think is important, and where I want to be. Thus, I not only want to continually find Hope. I want to have a conviction of Hope. I believe I can achieve that through the power of self-reflection, the love and wisdom of my incredible family and our Lord, and the strength of meaningful friendships. I believe this blog will be a vehicle for my quest for Hope and maybe it will help you find yours or solidify even further what your Hopes and Dreams are.

Many times I find that my direction of thoughts and motivations are best summarized from proverbs, Bible scriptures, and quotes. Therefore, many of my posts will have one of those aspects. The following quote depicts what I hope this blog will be about: "Consult not your fears but your hopes and dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what is still possible for you to do." -Pope John XXIII.

I hope this blog will help you and I to search for and solidify our hopes, learn about our untapped potential by expanding our mind and wisdom, and look to our future and what we hope to accomplish.
